Associate Professor David Rice
Dr David Rice is Associate Head of Research in the School of Clinical Sciences and an Associate Professor in the Department of Physiotherapy where he teaches at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in areas including pain mechanisms and management, functional anatomy, biomechanics and exercise physiology. David also has an appointment at Waitemata Pain Services in the Department of Anaesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine at North Shore Hospital and is the current President of the New Zealand Pain Society.
David’s main research interests are in the neuromuscular consequences and management of joint injury and arthritis, orthopaedics, postsurgical pain and the mechanisms and management of chronic pain conditions. He has been a recipient or co-recipient of of more than $2 million of research funding, including external research funding from organisations such as the Health Research Council of New Zealand, Japan Science and Technology Agency, Australia New Zealand College of Anaesthetists and Neurological Foundation of New Zealand.
