Dr Hemakumar Devan

Dr Hemakumar Devan is a Lecturer at the Rehabilitation Teaching and Research Unit, University of Otago, Wellington and a Physiotherapist at the Wellington Regional Pain Management Service. He currently holds a Health Delivery Career Development Award from Health Research Council (HRC) of New Zealand. His primary research interest is to foster self-management support to address inequities experienced by people with chronic pain and their whānau (family and significant others). Dr Devan is currently leading a programme of work – Behavioural Intervention Technologies for pain self-management support (Pain BITS). He is a council member (Social Media) of the NZPS and a steering committee member of the IASP Early Career Leaders Presidential Task Force. He is a passionate science communicator often presents his work in pain conferences, blogs and in social media (@HemDevan).
